All Because You thought I Was Asleep

Half past twelve and the moon is up,
Eyes half closed and all of me unmoving,
Save perhaps for the rise and fall
of my steady breathing,
and the invisible flutter of my heart
gently drumming
when you slowly opened the door.

You entered like a thief in the night
And stole a kiss:
A sweet apology for wherever you have been.
I feel your eyes caress my face
and hear your sigh intrude into
my dreams
still being woven.

Quarter past twelve with eyes half closed
and all of you unmoving.
Beside me,
You think I am lost in the garden
of my wishes unfulfilled.
But just because I laid so still does not mean
I am not as awake inside
as though the sun is up and not the moon.

You entered like a thief in the night
and stole a kiss:
A sweet apology for wherever you need to be.
They say one day
we will all understand the good
in goodbyes...
But this night you thought you stole
a secret part of me without my knowing,
and all because you thought I was asleep.
The innocence of truth
when wrapped in the safety of sweet unguarded silence.
Here is another truth.
You entered like a thief in the night
and thought you stole a kiss.
But it was a gift
of annassuming love,
and it's been there
waiting
for you
all along.
